Blueprint

What the EPPP covers.

Candidates for licensure as a psychologist in one of ASPPB’s 66 member jurisdictions in the United States and Canada, most of them with a doctoral degree in psychology and supervised experience.

ASPPB publishes the blueprint below. The percentages are the share of the exam each area accounts for — not separate hurdles, since scoring is based on the total number of questions answered correctly. Every lesson sits under its area and reads in the app.

Questions

EPPP questions, answered.

Each answer names the document it comes from.

What is the integrated EPPP, and when does it start?

It is the next form of the Examination for Professional Practice in Psychology, which ASPPB develops and owns: one exam that assesses both knowledge and skills, in place of the EPPP (Part 1-Knowledge) and the EPPP (Part 2-Skills). ASPPB schedules it to become operational in the fourth quarter of 2027, when Part 1 and Part 2 close to first-time test takers. Candidates who took either part before the launch and did not pass may retake it through March 31, 2028. From April 1, 2028, the integrated EPPP is the only EPPP.

I am preparing for the current EPPP. Is this course for me?

This course follows the integrated EPPP’s blueprint, which is not the outline of the current exams. If you will take the EPPP (Part 1-Knowledge) or the EPPP (Part 2-Skills) before the integrated EPPP launches, or retake one of them through March 31, 2028, ASPPB’s EPPP Candidate Handbook sets out their content areas in its Appendices A and C.

Source: ASPPB, EPPP Candidate Handbook, pages 22 and 27; ASPPB, The Integrated EPPP: Frequently Asked Questions, page 4

Who takes the integrated EPPP?

People seeking licensure in psychology in one of ASPPB’s 66 member jurisdictions, in the United States and Canada. Each jurisdiction sets its own licensing requirements, which vary, and ASPPB does not suggest that the EPPP should be the only measure of competence: it is one part of a broader licensure process.

Source: ASPPB, The Integrated EPPP: Frequently Asked Questions, page 1

Who decides whether I can take the EPPP?

Your licensing board or college. For the beta test, ASPPB’s Board of Directors recommends that candidates have completed the coursework required for a doctoral degree program their board or college accepts, and all or most of their required supervised experience. The beta test is open to master’s and doctoral-level candidates who meet the requirements of a participating board or college.

What is the EPPP beta test?

A run of the integrated EPPP in March and April 2027. It lets ASPPB check how the exam works before the launch in fall 2027, and gives it the data to set the passing score. It is for first-time EPPP test takers approved through the licensure track of a member jurisdiction whose licensing board or college takes part. It costs US$100 plus the US$91.88 Pearson VUE sitting fee, US$191.88 in all, can be taken only once, and is in English only.

Source: ASPPB, EPPP Beta Test: Frequently Asked Questions, pages 1 to 3

What does a beta test result count for?

A pass on the beta test counts as a pass on the EPPP (Part 1-Knowledge). A fail is not counted as a failed attempt at Part 1, and the candidate may then take Part 1 for a US$100 examination fee plus the Pearson VUE sitting fee. Beta results are expected in late June 2027, not straight after the exam, because ASPPB first analyzes the results and sets the passing score.

Source: ASPPB, EPPP Beta Test: Frequently Asked Questions, pages 2 and 3

What is the format of the integrated EPPP?

One computer-based session of 215 questions, with five hours of testing time plus an optional 30-minute break. 175 questions are scored, and 40 are unscored pretest items that help ASPPB try out future questions. Candidates cannot tell which questions are which, and answers to pretest items do not affect the result. The beta test has the same format.

What kinds of questions are on the integrated EPPP?

ASPPB lists traditional multiple-choice questions with three or four response options, extended multiple-choice questions, scenario-based case studies with a series of related questions, and questions based on multimedia content such as audio or video. It has not said how many of each type the exam holds. The questions in this course have four options and one best answer, and are text only: what a recording would show is described in words.

What does the integrated EPPP cover?

Six competency domains, each with its share of the exam: Scientific Orientation to Practice 15%, Assessment 20%, Intervention 20%, Consultation and Supervision 10%, Interpersonal Relationships 15%, and Ethical and Professional Practice 20%. ASPPB’s blueprint sets out the competencies within each domain and the knowledge and skill statements within each competency, and gives a weight to the domains only. The beta test uses the same blueprint.

How is the integrated EPPP passed?

ASPPB sets the integrated EPPP’s passing score through standard setting on the beta test’s data, and has not yet published it. For the current exams, ASPPB reports a scaled score from 200 to 800 and recommends 500 for independent practice; it has not said whether the integrated EPPP will use the same scale.

Source: ASPPB, EPPP Beta Test: Frequently Asked Questions, pages 1 and 3; ASPPB, EPPP Candidate Handbook, pages 14 and 15

How much does the integrated EPPP cost?

From the launch in fall 2027 through March 31, 2028, the examination fee is US$600, plus the Pearson VUE sitting fee, US$91.88 at present. From April 1, 2028 the examination fee is US$650, plus the sitting fee. From April 1, 2030, ASPPB reviews the fee every two years against changes in the Consumer Price Index.

Source: ASPPB, The Integrated EPPP: Frequently Asked Questions, page 3

Does ASPPB offer sample exams?

Yes. Each sample exam has 100 questions in 150 minutes, made of previously used operational items. They are for candidates approved as licensure applicants in a member jurisdiction and authorized to take the beta test, from fall 2026 in English and from summer 2027 in French, bought and scheduled through the candidate’s Clarus dashboard. ASPPB recommends its blueprint, sample exam and Candidate Handbook as the primary resources. This course does not use them: every question here is original.

Source: ASPPB, EPPP Frequently Asked Questions: Both the Beta Test and the Integrated EPPP, pages 4 and 5

Is the integrated EPPP offered in French?

Only where a jurisdiction’s law requires it. French is the only language offered besides English, and candidates in jurisdictions that require a French examination can take the integrated EPPP in French from fall 2027. The beta test is in English only, and so is this course.

Source: ASPPB, The Integrated EPPP: Frequently Asked Questions, page 3; ASPPB, EPPP Beta Test: Frequently Asked Questions, page 3

How do I request testing accommodations?

Through the licensing board or college you are seeking licensure with. Candidates with documented disabilities or impairments covered by the Americans with Disabilities Act or the Accessible Canada Act may request accommodations, with documentation where it is required. The board or college decides, and where warranted works with ASPPB on a final review. ASPPB encourages candidates to request them as early as possible.

Source: ASPPB, EPPP Frequently Asked Questions: Both the Beta Test and the Integrated EPPP, page 6

Can I retake the integrated EPPP?

ASPPB has not published retake rules for the integrated EPPP. For the current exams, its Handbook allows no candidate to take either part more than four times in any 12-month period, recommends waiting about 90 days before trying again, and leaves other rules, such as waiting periods and limits, to each licensing board or college. The beta test can be taken only once.

Is QualExam connected to ASPPB?

No. ASPPB develops and owns the EPPP, and its candidate acknowledgment makes the exam and its items ASPPB’s exclusive property. QualExam is an independent study resource, not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by ASPPB or any psychology licensing board or college. Every question, lesson and flashcard here is original, written from ASPPB’s published blueprint; none is EPPP content.
